Working together
How can we become a member of your team?
We are responsive and proactive to provide the support you need as quickly as you need it. To engage our services, we have template clauses for adding to your own standard contract, or we can provide a template Contract for Services. We have template information for, or can suggest input into, business cases or approval documents.
Our goal is to give you price certainty. Extra Law’s business model means our hourly rates start much cheaper than traditional law firms. We place extra value on being a member of your team, so there are bigger discounts, the longer the engagement.
Our proactivity goes beyond initial contract engagement. We will support the Extra Law team member throughout their time with you and actively manage the contract. We will use systems and processes to fit with your organisation.
Providing additional personnel to government organisations, is Extra Law’s business. Therefore, if we are not on a current engagement with you, we will be involved in another government organisation’s legal work, or building on our experiences in similar fields (such as, for example, Crown property) so that our experience will remain on point. We also will be continuing to develop connections with those working for government in the legal field, such as the Government Legal Network and external legal providers on the All of Government Legal Services Panel.
Who is an Extra Law team member?
We assign an Extra Law team member who we mutually agree has the skills and knowledge to be in your team.
Your Extra Law team member will fit within your team and adopt your practices of working. Like the Extra Law plant (fake and portable!) featured on our website, an Extra Law team member is adaptable to many different situations.
Your Extra Law team member will already have knowledge on those topics relevant to a government lawyer (including for example, the state sector code of conduct, OIAs, decision making and Judicial review), and therefore your own induction requirements can be streamlined.
Extra Law has a commitment to health and safety and will consult, coordinate and cooperate with you so that the interests of all involved are protected.
Meet: Valerie Bland
I set up Extra Law because I believe I can help government organisations with their legal resourcing needs.
You can read about the experience and skills I have to share with Extra Law’s clients (and hear my mihi whakatau):

How can you become a member of the Extra Law team?
Are you interested in being an Extra Law team member? Maybe you know somebody who is thinking about being a Government lawyer and wishes to try it out temporarily in a fully-supported way? Maybe you are an All of Government Legal Services Panel law firm who would like to give its staff the ability to get the most out of a government secondment prospect? If there is an opportunity, we want it to work for you.
